Story
On January 29, 2005, Shauna was stricken by a virus that caused a severe seizure that lasted 1.5 hours leaving her unable to walk or talk. After 4 weeks in Children’s Hospital she was able to go home. The next two months were spent going to speech, occupational and physio rehab sessions at Pathways Centre forChildren in Sarnia. During that time we noticed that she was pale and her fingers were always cold. We followed up with our family doctor who prescribed iron and folic acid and ordered blood tests to be completed in one month. The test results came back very low and we were referred back to Children’s Hospital. Although she wasn’t exhibiting any of the typical signs, a bone marrow asperate was performed to rule out leukemia. Unfortunately Shauna was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on May 6, 2005 and our life as we once knew it was no longer.
